Here's the ironic thing...I had mentioned that a portion of this blog was going to be dedicated to US history. When was the last time I blogged about history...well, I guess that is history in itself. So I thought I would give you a bit of the history behind this day, April 23:

The Teacher becomes the Student
Finally, my 5-year plan is happening...three years after it was supposed to be completed! I guess that getting married and having children thing got in the way...TOTALLY KIDDING of course...I love you babe!
I'm going back to school. I was just recently accepted in to the Master's program at Azusa Pacific University. I will be starting classes on April 14. Please pray for me as this will be quite an adventure. Yet I know that if I do not do it now, then it will never be done. Jess and I have been praying about this for some time and feel that this is the time. I should be able to get two classes completed prior to the beginning of the next school year and football season.
Frequently Asked Questions:
1. "Why are you getting your Master's degree?" - It has always been a goal of mine. I knew I always wanted to continue my education beyond my undergraduate degree. This will allow me to explore other avenues of education.
2. "What are you getting your Master's degree in?" - Educational Leadership
3. "What does 'Educational Leadership' mean?" - It is a different way to say Administration.
4. "Do you want to be an administrator?" - I've been considering it for some time now. I have always believed that the Lord has blessed me with leadership qualities. In no way do I want to deny the abilities the Lord has given to me.
5. "Would you miss the classroom?" - Yes I would. I love teaching. Teaching has been such a blessing to my life. The relationships I have developed with my students over the past eight years have been...to sound like a high-schooler...awesome! Teaching United States History, World History, Government, Economics, Health, PE, Psychology, Agricultural Biology, Veterinary Science, and Floriculture (ask me later about the last three), have been an amazing, challenging, and above all, a huge learning adventure.
6. "If you love it so much, why give it up?" - I'm not giving it up just yet. It will take awhile before I finish the program. My guess at this point, is that I will not enter the administration field full-time for another two or three years. Only the Lord knows. Also, I don't feel that I would be giving up teaching. Would I not be teaching History, yes. However, being an administrator does not mean you stop teaching.
So, that's it for now. I will keep you updated as the program continues. Again, please be in prayer for me and my family, as this will be a very busy time. We know the Lord is in control. If you have any other questions, please feel free to comment, and I will get back to you.

Can you believe it!?
Jess and I decided yesterday that we wanted to play the lottery...well, let me clarify, not the big multi-million dollar pay out lottery, just the little scratcher games that are usually found under the glass. Neither of us has ever played, so we thought, what's a dollar? So as we were out and about last night, we pulled in to the local 7-11 (of course for a slurpee), and we bought a ticket. After we got home and put the girls to bed, we sratched and WON!! We won $5,000!!!! Can you believe it? We can't either, we are still in shock. We just wanted to share the crazy news with you all. Have a great rest of your day...you know we will be! Have you or anyone you know ever played and won? Let us know.

Copy Cat
Did you ever play this game when you were a kid? I remember doing this to my sisters and my older brother. Of course, they would get annoyed with me! But there is something about this game when your 3 year old daughter plays with you. I'll set the scene for you...
I was sitting at the computer, watching a video that my mom forwarded. As I was watching, I was sitting back in the chair with my arms folded. Cami walked up, as she usually does when there is something playing on the computer. She looked at me, then looked at the computer. She looked at me again, and then proceeded to fold her arms just like I was doing. Okay, first of all, I was already watching an emotional video. And now, my daughter is watching in the same way her daddy is watching! For those Dad's out there who have little girls, you know what that did to my heart.
Here is the video that I was watching, I think you will like it. One more thing, as the video was progressing...Cami turns to me and says, "Daddy, is that your American flag?"...That's my girl!!

Now that I've been home for a week...
...I thought I would go ahead and post the last few days of my trip to the East Coast. Sorry this has taken so long. Once I got home last Thursday night, I wanted to do nothing but spend time with my family before I had to go back to work on Monday...I'm sure you understand.
The last few days of our trip was great, of course. As you will see, we headed into Philadelphia and then on to New York City. Philadelphia is a great experience. To view the city as it must have been when it served as our provincial capitol. We were able to take a walking tour of the historic district. Our guide gave us a tremendous perspective of life in the city, especially during the Revolution. I was able to take some time and go inside of "Independence Hall" and be in the room where our founding fathers signed the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution...WOW!! The chair that George Washington sat in is still in the room!
We then moved on to New York City. Now this is where I shoot myself in the foot. On the day that we go to the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, The Empire State Building, and so much more, I FORGOT THE BATTERY TO MY CAMERA!!! I may have just jumped into the harbor on that 30 degree day. Also, I won't mention that I didn't even get to go to Federal Hall (where George Washington was sworn in as the first president), the Stock Exchange, Ground Zero, and Christ Church. Needless to say, New York City was not the highlight of my trip. But I was able to capture a few pictures on the last night and day we were in town to share with you.
All in all, this was a fantastic trip, and I would recommend it to anyone! In fact, if you have the time, money, and energy to spend with 8th, 11th, and 12th graders, we will be going again, February 17-27, 2009! Come and join us!!
